Much like how we are unique individuals, our fingerprints are unique too! This is what the students discovered as they stamped their fingerprints and compared them with each other using a magnifying glass.

Before going back to our 'I know, I wonder' chart, I had the students look through our unit books that we got from the library. The aim was to spark their curiosity, and get them thinking! It certainly did, though we have more to add to our chart. When visiting the class, please do come in and check it out. This chart is a way to assess what students know about the subject and to guide the direction of the inquiry.
Our school year has started off on a wonderful note, and with the most fitting Unit of Inquiry! Within the next few days, you will be receiving more information regarding our classroom routines and procedures, a class schedule, a Unit of Inquiry newsletter and more to come on September 18th, curriculum night.
Our first unit is about learning environments. Below is a picture of our dramatic play area, set up as a little class. I invited the students to come and play pretend school and as I sat, listening and observing their play, I got to know more about what they know around the topic of schools. This is one of the many ways I am able to assess their prior knowledge as well as how we typically begin our inquiry cycle! It also gets students thinking about the topic at hand. Soon, we will come up with questions that will drive our inquiry into learning environments! We have been closely observing the growth of our pea plants and have been documenting what we see every few days, in our plant journal. The kids are quite excited to see their plants growing well!
In English class, Mme Katie has started us off by coming up with a few questions that will lead our inquiry, well, the students came up with these questions with a little guidance on Mme Katie's part. We are still working on learning the difference between a question and a comment. The question the students came up with a great! I'm excited to delve more into what they have shown curiosity about!
Really proud of my students and the wonderful job they did for their science fair project. When Lucie, the judge, visited their project, they were able to answer all her questions and share what they had done and what they had learned. I'm very impressed with their ability to recall all the facts and information and share it. Well done!
