We have been closely observing the growth of our pea plants and have been documenting what we see every few days, in our plant journal. The kids are quite excited to see their plants growing well!

Really proud of my students and the wonderful job they did for their science fair project. When Lucie, the judge, visited their project, they were able to answer all her questions and share what they had done and what they had learned. I'm very impressed with their ability to recall all the facts and information and share it. Well done!
Today, we officially began our experiment for the science fair. Each grown plant and each glass pot with a pea seed is labelled to show what we are watering it with. Today, I modelled just how much of each liquid we should water the plants and growing seeds with and going forward, the students will be responsible for it. Every few days, we will observe the plants to see what's happening! We will document our observations and the changes in our science journals.
And so our science fair project begins! We have already decided on the question we will be trying to find answers to, discussed our predictions, and made our plans. Below are a few pictures of the students working on documenting the process using the scientific method. We still have to fill out the 3rd step, how we plan to implement to experiment, and then we will begin!
Below are a few student questions and teacher questions that will kick off our inquiry into living things in our homes and classrooms and our responsibility towards them. You can be involved be discussing the topic with your child. If you have a pet or plants in your home, you can talk about the care you provide it in order for it to grow and be healthy. We had a discussion around the 2nd question from the top, and, with a little suggestion on my part, we decided we would do a science experiment to find out the answer. We also thought it would be a good idea if we tried a few other liquids, milk water and apple juice to be specific. This will be our science fair project!
A HUGE thank you to A and his family for organizing the Mad Science workshop! We experienced some pretty neat experiments and had loads of much fun! We learned about light and energy and made bouncy balls. We also found out that we had an alien in our class and found out who it was by using a UV light. Thanks again to A and family!
