Last week, we celebrated v-day by baking cupcakes and having an afternoon tea party. The long anticipated activity was loads of fun and a moderate amount of sugar...sorry! Thanks to Erick for providing tea sandwiches! I think we will have to make the afternoon tea party a yearly tradition!

Our three day activity was so much fun! Everyone loved every step, not just the eating cookies and candy part! Some of the gingerbread cookies made their way home, I hope you all got to have a try. From their little hands to you!
Here are the steps we followed:
Why did we decide to bake apples you ask? Well, apart from the fact that it's great fun, full of learning and skill building and most of all yummy, one of our morning circle rhymes is all about a mouse that does exactly what we did this morning. It is the day of her party so she cleans the carpet, finds apples, cuts and bakes them and then finally shares them with her little friends. Below are the words to the rhyme, read it at home and you'll find out that your child knows the words and knows what they mean too! The kids were involved in each and every part, minus taking the burning hot tray out of the toaster oven! They even cleaned the dishes we used! We shared with the toddlers and then had some baked apples at lunch. From what I observed, the process was more enjoyable than the finished product ;) We tied this activity to our unit by talking about one of the most important parts of friendship, sharing. We shared the responsibilities of the task (and cooperated in doing so) and we shared the apples with our younger friends! La comptine de la souris Aujourd'hui c'est ...(insert day of the week) C'est la fête à la souris Elle balaie son tapis Elle trouve une pomme d'api La coupe et la cuit Et la donne à ses petits Monday afternoon, the students spent some time baking cookies for the seniors we visited with today. A gesture to say thank you for spending time to share their stories and answer our questions! They followed the recipe closely and completed the whole activity with little help on my part! Measuring, pouring, mixing...they did it all! The recipe was posted on a big sheet on the wall with simple instructions and illustrations (don't judge my drawing skills if you happen to notice the picture!) so they were able to read and, basically, figure it out independently. Of course I manned the little ovens when it came time to bake ;) Everyone got to have a little taste of their baked creations and were excited to share and eat the rest today! Last Friday afternoon called for a little baking. So that is just what we did! After our outdoor adventure on the snow mountain, we came inside to make chocolate chip cookies. After all, we did need some energy after having explored the mountain! There were only a few kids at school due to the ski trip so we had the whole school to ourselves! Lucky!! The Martha Stewart recipe looked perfect so I printed up a few copies for the kids to follow. Measuring, pouring, mixing and our batter was ready. We baked them up and shared a few with the daycare kids and some of the teachers that were at school. They were delicious! Cookies Monsters! by Slidely Slideshow |
