As we figured out how many images were hidden, we were doing mental math and when we recorded the information on the chalk board, we were learning that there are a variety of combinations that represent a given number. We were also secretly gaining addition skills ;-)
Yesterday, we did a hide and seek number game, that got really wild towards then end! The objective was to guess how many images were hiding under the bin with the information we had. The information being knowledge of the total number of images and the number of images that were not hidden. As we figured out how many images were hidden, we were doing mental math and when we recorded the information on the chalk board, we were learning that there are a variety of combinations that represent a given number. We were also secretly gaining addition skills ;-)

» This week, we tested our knowledge about what trash goes where. I'm pleased to say that the students knew a lot about sorting the trash which means they are involved in this process at home! Great work everyone, as it says in the rhyme we learned, the earth will yell 'Hourra!'
After having done a few activities related to our unit we were ready for the question part of our inquiry. With our thinking caps on and our curiosity sparked, we sat together to write down the questions we had about our unit topic. I'm quite impressed with the questions everyone had! More often than not, the kindergarten kids come up with not only questions but comments and we would then have a discussion about the difference between the two. All to say that I was very impressed with the links they made and the questions they had and we will plan to investigate further to find the answers to some of the questions that we were not necessarily going to cover! Below are the questions the we have so far!
With lovely music playing in the background, the kinder students got to work on their Kandinsky inspired circle art. Choosing their colours very carefully, they filled in each section of their folded paper. Above are all their work put together as one beautiful piece! After completing a group activity about the different feelings we relate to colours we were ready to closely observe some of Wassily Kandinsky's art that I had posted on our chalkboard. The objective was to examine each piece and determine how it made us feel. Once we determined the feelings we felt after studying each piece, we stuck a smiley (or not so smiley) face underneath it. Later, we will collect some data based on the smiley faces on the board! We learned some new French vocabulary related to emotions and practiced expressing how we feel in French.
