Today, we learned about patterns and how we can find them all around us, we even saw some examples in our classroom. Then we practiced making patterns using images of animals. First, we went through the animals to learn their names in French, some we already knew! Some more practice and we will become experts in making ABABAB patterns! Afterwards, we practiced our scissor skills and cut up some of the extra animal pictures.

Last week, we worked on making patterns with actions and then representing the actions using both letters and beads. Each student took a turn doing an action pattern and then I wrote out the pattern on the table and we used the beads to represent each pattern. Once everyone had a turn to share an action pattern, we started making our own patterns using the beads and string. Working on math skills but fine motor skills as well!
This morning, we explored patters a few different ways. Action patters, sound patterns and patterns using all the colourful figures you see below. It was especially exciting for each of the students to take turns choosing a set of actions to make a pattern with. We had jumping and turning and running on the spot, a math lesson with lots of movement!
Today we talked about all types of patterns, sound patterns, action patterns, shape patterns. Each student had a turn leading the class in a sound or action pattern and then we used the chalk boards to draw some patterns of our own. Some simple and some more complex but all awesome! We looked around the class too and found some patterns in our environment. Patterns are everywhere!
_What can you make with these 7 magic shapes? Students got creative as they played around with the shapes to make an image of their choice. They started by cutting out the shapes and then arranging them in endless possibilities. The sky is the limit when they use their imagination! Many skill building opportunities come from playing with tangrams; from geometry to shape vocabulary to spatial awareness! Not to mention creativity! What can you make with these 7 magic shapes! |
