So, the picture above was where the idea for our Love Day art came from and the pictures below are my lovely students doing the craft. As you can see, NAILED IT!
Here is a link to the yarn heart post, to give credit where credit is due! http://www.auntpeaches.com/2013/01/yarn-hearts.html Being that Love Day was also Ski Day, we didn't do all that was planned, it was a busy morning! So we will still be making our secret message tree of kindness, our what we love writing activity and I suppose our heart hats too...just for fun ;) Here are some pictures of our paper doll activity! It was A LOT of work to colour and cut all the fabulous clothes and some of us still have a little more work to do. A few students have finished and really enjoyed playing with their dolls. The fact that they were made of paper was rather amusing to the children playing!
New unit, new vocabulary! Throughout the unit, we are exposed to and learn lots of new French vocabulary. We also use the wall of words to reflect on what the main idea/concept of our unit means to us and what we think of when we think about. We have already started the unit, played some new and old games, discussed, analysed and read books about toys and play. This is what we have so far!
Check out some of the things that happened in English class with Mme Katie over the past little while.
Click here to visit Mme Katie's Blog http://acadecapbodyandmind.weebly.com/english.html Last week, we read a book that took place thousands of years ago about a little girl named Cropetite, the first person in the whole entire world to make a doll. Consequently, she discovered how to fire clay. It was an exciting book that the kids really enjoyed, they were inspired by Cropetite's creativity and wanted to make dolls too. Plan to inspire ✔
Thank you to Mme Mélanie for lending us the book, the language was perfect for our little learners of French and I will have to look into more books by that author! So this week, we are going to make two different kids of dolls, paper dolls and clay dolls. We'll start with paper dolls. We'll also take a look at their rich history. Learning about the history of paper dolls will be a great way to link to our first Unit of Inquiry, 'What was it like when you were young'. I'll be asking the students to ask you as well as their grandparents if paper dolls were part of your childhood and we'll graph the results. How popular were they?! Later on in the week, we'll make clay dolls. If it wasn't winter, we would go dig up some dirt and make our own clay using the super cool water extraction method I recently learned about but we live in Canada...perhaps a fun activity for the spring! Stay tuned for pictures of our paper dolls! |
