Last Friday afternoon called for a little baking. So that is just what we did! After our outdoor adventure on the snow mountain, we came inside to make chocolate chip cookies. After all, we did need some energy after having explored the mountain! There were only a few kids at school due to the ski trip so we had the whole school to ourselves! Lucky!! The Martha Stewart recipe looked perfect so I printed up a few copies for the kids to follow. Measuring, pouring, mixing and our batter was ready. We baked them up and shared a few with the daycare kids and some of the teachers that were at school. They were delicious! Cookies Monsters! by Slidely Slideshow
A few of the math activities that students were freely exploring during our afternoon math period! Enjoy ;)
Math Madness by Slidely Slideshow Big thank you to Mme Mélanie B. for being our in house videographer and to Mme Carter for putting together this great video of our concert! The unit 'Community Living' lends itself well to talking about different types of homes and construction. After our discussion about the different types of homes we see in our community, we designed our very own home that we would later measure. Students became little designers and architects, adding landscapes, people and most of all, using their imagination to create different types of windows, doors, chimneys and walkways. Once they finished their design, they used rulers to measure parts of the home and recorded the measurements. We also learned some new (or not so new) French vocabulary during this activity. You could review some of the words at home! Règle, fenêtre, porte, maison, fleur. Some students were really excited to realize that some of the sides of their house were the same length! We measured in centimeters; for some students, it was their first time using a ruler accurately. Once they became comfortable, they were eager to measure everything!!
With the help of the lovely students, we organised and put in order our laminated set of cards with numbers 1 through 100. We then pinned them onto our cork board for a multitude of activities to come. We are going to start with a funny game that involves our class puppet, Sophie and a few missing numbers. Every morning 'Sophie' will hide a few number and won't bring them back until we figure out which numbers she hid! Don't forget to ask your little ones which numbers Sophie hid every day! Sneaky Sophie and the numbers she took!
