Today, the kindergarten class planted some 200+ seeds! I chose egg cartons to show the students an example of how we can reuse things and asked them if we could then put the egg cartons straight into the soil once it was time to transfer the seedlings outside. Mixed responses but after some discussion about the material of the egg cartons and referencing our ongoing decomposition experiment, we concluded that we can indeed transfer the seedlings into the soil, egg cartons and all. Just outside our playground are two large planters and once spring rolls around, we will clean them up and plant our veggies. We decided to start early so that we can harvest our food before school is out, hopefully it will all work out! This unit along with our two final units go ever so harmoniously with this activity...ok I planned that! More to come about those later! So we will make sure our seeds are watered three times a day since it will be harder to control the moisture as they are out in the open and a chart on the window will help remind us! We will take as much care as we can of our little soon-to-be garden so we can garner the best results! During lunch, there was some discussion about what we will do with all our veggies once they are ready to be eaten! Salads and stews are on the menu, we shall find out in a few months! Also to note is how great everyone is at helping clean up! Love our little team!

This morning, we played a game of bingo to review all the letters and sounds we have learned from Raconte-moi l'alphabet. Everyone did a great job recalling the stories! Bingo is also always super fun and exciting!
Continuing to reinforce where different things get thrown out and practicing our cutting and writing skills as well as our unit vocabulary!
The SK students had some work to finish up and while they worked on their activities from Raconte-moi l'alphabet the JK students explored letter using a sensory approach.
February 5th is our 100th day of school and, to celebrate, we did a couple of activities around the number 100! In three groups, students had the task of making 100 finger prints on paper plates. How will they keep track of that you ask?! Well by having 10 plates and making 10 finger prints on each of course...multiplication ;) After the groups completed the task of finger painting, they used the leftover paint to get a little messy!
The second activity was discussed the day before. We were to find something in the class that we can use to represent a collection of 100. There were some really cool ideas and while I would like to share them, the white board got erased! One of the ideas was to collect 100 pieces of recycled items...super cool idea! In the end, we split the class in two and made a collection of 100 puzzle pieces and a monster with 100 eyes, also super cool ideas! The older students were left to count the pieces on their own and after having done the finger paint activity, they had some knowledge to be able to do it! They made the connection and on their own, created 10 groups of 10 and started gluing, BRAVO! Today, it is the 100th day, the rest of the students at school were also tasked with making a collection of 100 items, can't wait to see what they came up with! Today, we started a science experiment to find out what will happen to 3 different things buried in dirt; orange peels, paper and a plastic bag. We moistened the dirt and mixed it all up and started our observation booklets. The first page is our hypothesis and the following pages are for documenting our observations over a period of 6 weeks. The final page will be saved for the results. The kids came up with some pretty interesting hypotheses! Stay tuned!
