Yesterday’s STEM class was all about learning what a binary code meant. We learned that computers use binary numbers and that binary code is a two-symbol code. Using our code sheet, we looked up the letters of our name and used the black and white square paper to write our names using the binary code! We'll do some more work on this, to reinforce our understanding. Maybe we'll challenge ourselves to write a sentence, next week! We'll also talk about how braille uses a binary code system to read and write by touch.

Yesterday, we were invited to the grade 1-2 class to watch their Makey Makey projects in action. They spent time with each student explaining how it worked and letting them try it out! Thanks so much!
Once again, the Maker Mobile joined us at school for some great workshops. Justine, our instructor for the robot programming workshop, did a great job explaining how we have to be incredibly specific when we give a computer commands, there were some good laughs!
Check out the video for some pictures of what we did!
This week, Mme Sarah introduced the students to binary numbers. When a computer's "brain" is thinking, how does it represent numbers?! They learned that computers represent numbers in only 0's and 1's and that there is only one way to represent each number in binary. They then practised converting from binary to decimal numbers and back again.
It was a fantastic lesson! Thanks Mme Sarah!
A great video of the PreK/JK/SK students in Mme Carter's ICT class!
