The best thing to do with so many paper scraps is to make new paper! That is exactly what we did with all the scraps from another a previous activity. We soaked the paper in water overnight and the following day, we blended the paper, added sparkles and used the screens and felt pads pictured below to make new sheets of paper. A few days to fully dry and our beautifully pressed new paper will be ready for whatever our hearts desire! Now this had nothing to do with our current unit of inquiry but is a great learning opportunity to demonstrate how we can reuse what is essentially garbage to make something new.

Our inquiry into cycles led us to learn about the water cycle. Below is step one of this exploration where students helped cut out the different parts of the cycle and put them in the correct order. We briefly talked about evaporation, condensation and precipitation. Next week, we will explore this further by doing a few science experiments that will help us better understand each stage of the cycle. All the scraps of paper we ended up with after cutting out the pictures did not go to waste! We made paper with our scrap paper! Check out the next post for pics :)
We practice our letters and writing in many different ways. Here, we are using dry erase markers on the windows to practice writing our names and letters we have learned about from raconte-moi l'alphabet!
We have been talking about and discussing the concept of change throughout this unit, specifically as it pretains to natural cycles. Today we looked at different sports that are played in the winter, the summer (or warmer seasons) or both. How best can we sort this information, a Venn diagram! After reviewing how to use a Venn diagram, as we have used this graphic organizer before, students began cutting out the images and placing them accordingly.
Unrelated note, I am excited to share that this is the kindergarten blog's 500th post! Below is a snippit from English class where Miss Andrea read a book about day and night, the sun, the moon and the earth's rotation. By using a flashlight, a mirror and a globe, she showed the students how it all works!
All fresh and rested after the break, students were happy to get back to business! Today, we worked on counting to 100 and skip counting. Using our 100 chart, we took turns removing a random number and asking our friends which number they thought we took. Once we finished exploring numbers on the chart, we did some skip counting using our whole bodies! A number line on the carpet and jumping to the right numbers according to what we were counting by. Just a note to add, I made sure to tell the students that we can only use chalk on our 'special' school carpets!
