With letter sounds on our minds, we began to notice different words around our class with the sounds we had previously been learning about. Our word wall had the word école and our schedule had the words chanson and recherche, those were exciting finds let me tell you!
After reviewing the stories of é, è and ch in Raconte-moi les sons, we began a search for words containing those sounds. Before we started our search, we tried to think of as many words with the sound ch as we could...we did pretty good actually! But we found many many more in our pile of word cards! With every word found, an excited face would look up and announce it to the class! Our little word learners couldn't have been more enthusiastic! We concluded the lesson with a cut and paste of words with the sound ch. With letter sounds on our minds, we began to notice different words around our class with the sounds we had previously been learning about. Our word wall had the word école and our schedule had the words chanson and recherche, those were exciting finds let me tell you!

Last week we began our French workbook, Mélissa et ses amis. We read the introduction together and looked at the picture prompts that will help us read instructions in the pages to follow. We learned the names of the two main characters that will appear throughout the book, which I find fantastic! It will make thee learning in this book personal and fun!
Just a note to please ensure these books stay at school. Thank you! Stay tuned for more adventures with Mélissa and her dog Médor! Our 'Mur de mots' is one of the many ways we develop unit related French vocabulary. Some words are new and some we already know! At the beginning of each unit as well as during the unit, we will add to the board. We decided to pin the words up in alphabetical order for a little extra fun! Towards the end of the unit, we will choose a few words for our dictée and practice them at school. The words we have so far are listed below. Feel free to read them with your child(ren) at home!
aujourd'hui école enfance famille grands-parents hier histoire jeune jouer jouets vieux Every week, we will spend some time writing in our reflection journals. Yesterday, on the first day of school, we reflected on how the first day of school was special to us. We wrote 1er jour d'école and drew a picture that represented a special part of our day. Some students felt that putting on their uniform was special, some thought that seeing their friends after a long summer holiday was special, there were many special parts! During the first part of the year, the teacher will act as a scribe and/or the students will copy sentences of the board. Towards the end of the school year, students will begin to write their reflections on their own! A great year of learning ahead! Yesterday afternoon, the students worked on measuring items from their recycling center using non standard measuring tools. They estimated, counted and compared the items they chose. We talked about the standard tools we use to measure and reinforced the vocabulary in French! Below is a list of some of the French vocabulary we used :)
