Presenting our newly revamped word wall! The students are the ones who came up with the words and the only condition was that they relate to our unit of inquiry. The wall gets added to as the unit develops and below, students can practice writing the words and/or arranging the alphabet magnets to make the words on the wall. This activity helps develop French vocabulary and also helps the students make links to our unit, this one being community.

This week, we started our 5th unit, Getting Around. After having introduced the unit, we went to the library to search for related books. Next was the task of adding transportation related words to our word wall. We used our new books for some inspiration! Dictionaries were great help for words we knew in English but did not know in French! Once we double checked our spelling, we pinned the words to the board. The students are very proud when they see a word they wrote added to the wall ;) We continue working hard until our word wall is quite full but will continue adding to it as we go through the unit and learn new vocabulary. Some words make us laugh, like montgolfière, which we learned means hot air balloon. We show great phonetic spelling when we try and sound the words out on our own!
Excellent work! As we start a new Unit of Inquiry, we are introduced to new French vocabulary.
This is what we have come up with so far! Our 'Mur de mots' is one of the many ways we develop unit related French vocabulary. Some words are new and some we already know! At the beginning of each unit as well as during the unit, we will add to the board. We decided to pin the words up in alphabetical order for a little extra fun! Towards the end of the unit, we will choose a few words for our dictée and practice them at school. The words we have so far are listed below. Feel free to read them with your child(ren) at home!
