First Day Fun

I can now say that our first day of school was a smooth, successful and fun day! Our small little group had no troubles following the routine and getting back into the swing of things, which I'm very pleased about!

We started off the day with our usual circle time; introducing the students to the calendar, checking the weather, singing songs, reading a book and talking about our commitment to learning French. We, then, took a walk around the class introducing each center and talking the rules and the number of students allowed at a time.

Over the course of the week, discuss, review and add to the rules we should follow in any given class and in the various parts of the school. We will then add them to our essential agreement and sign our name to represent our promise to following the rules and codes of conduct.

A few more routines to go through over the course of the week and we'll be set for success! We have our classroom responsibilities to go over and more specialist teachers to be introduced to.

Pinhey Sand Dunes

On Friday, all the students of Acadecap enjoyed a morning of learning about the dunes, the species and plants that live there and helped with the restoration process. A little presentation about reptiles too! Thank you Biodiversity Conservancy International for your time and expertise! We look forward to coming back! The students had an amazing experience and actually, so did I ;) Ask your child all about it and what their favourite part of the day was! This video includes some clips and pictures of the Junior Kindergarten to Grade 3 students! Enjoy!

Article on Imagination

I found this article about the importance of imagination and thought it was really worth sharing. Without imagination and creativity, we would not have many of the things we use everyday and may even take for granted like light bulbs or soap! Things we don't often think of but would be hard to live without.

I don't know how many times I've heard the story, "My child played with the boxes that his/her Christmas/birthday toys came in rather than the toy!" Imagination is a powerful tool and encouraging it is of great importance! Letting children play with open-ended materials is one great way to foster their imagination, something they can do anything with; create, manipulate, discover, explore.

Even within areas where the information seems concrete, there is room for imagination and creativity! Enjoy the article!
