In our communities, who is responsible for caring for animals?! We all had a very clear understanding of care for the common pet but did not know as much about the care that other animals receive and how, in particular, wild animals! Dr. Arora shared a lot of information with us today, we learned that veterinarians perform many of the same procedures and use many of the same tools as our family doctors. We also got to see some neat x-ray pictures and listened very carefully to two heartbeats noting that one was normal and one was not. Many of us have pets at home so we are very thankful to what veterinarians do for us and the community!

We had a great presentation this morning about fire safety and learned a little bit about how Officer Pazdzior and other firefighters are vital members of a community. Some of us knew lots about fire safety, which Officer Pazdzior was very impressed with. We practiced crawling under 'smoke' and the proper stop, drop and roll technique. At the end, we each got a little bag with some special goodies! Thanks to Officer Pazdzior for the great presentation!
Our new unit, titled 'Imagine the Possibilities' will be introduced next week. To inspire the students, I replaced many of the toys and games in the class to more open-ended items. As they began to play, I heard them say 'What will we do with these?'. That is exactly what I wanted to hear! I told them to be creative and use the items in whatever way they wanted. I witnessed lots of fantastic and creative play! Looking forward to seeing all the imaginative ways they will use the new materials, seeing the students think outside the box and discussing the topic of imagination and creativity!
Below is a list the students came up with of ways that they could help in their community. I have staples a printed copy in everyone's agenda so they may refer to it over the weekend and complete some of the tasks they came up with. When they do, they can check it off! If your child was not at school today, you could print the image below so they could do their 'homework' over the weekend and bring the printed copy to school on Monday. The students are quite excited about their 'homework', have fun!
Getting messy manipulating clay and exploring the tools that we will later use to create imaginative sculptures for our third unit! The clay is very different from regular play dough, something we are more familiar with and we learned that if we leave it for too long, it starts to dry and leaves cracks when we try to mold it. A little spray of water did the trick to bring it back to life. A few visuals to go with our song about primary colours. We will be using these during circle time. Learning the words of the song and know what they mean using the pictures helps us build our French vocabulary! Click the link to listen to the song at home!
