Last week, we had a blast at the National Art Gallery. We learned about some of the art featured at the gallery, about primary, secondary colours and shades. Did you know that pink is not a colour, but a shade?! Later, we made our own art that was meant to be inspired by a massive picture of bead work displayed in the gallery. After lunch, we got to explore a little more freely before it was time to get on the bus and return to school. We had a great morning!

Here are a few pictures from last week's friendship soup activity! I hope you got a little taste of the soup that went home, we loved it (mostly all of us!). The process was probably the best part though!
This morning, after reviewing the letter names and sound of the letters we have studied so far, we went on a hunt for letters around the class. With a clipboard and pencil in hand, they wrote down the letters they found. Once they were done, they sat down with me to tell me the name and sound of all the letters they found!
Here, we are working on many math skills such as counting, number recognition, one to one correspondence and subitizing. We worked in groups of two, taking turns to choose a number and placing the correct amount of tiles in square.
This week, students across the globe are participating in The Hour of Code, and our students are doing just the same. In fact, if you go to the Hour of Code website, you'll find our school pinned on the map! Many of the activities are for students a bit older but there are many opportunities and activities for students as young as JK to participate in as well. During yesterday's STEM class, we worked on the iPads, using the application Scratch Jr, which many of the students are familiar with already. Some of us worked independently while others followed the steps one by one with me at the table. Once they finished their program, their eyes lit up with happiness, the satisfactions of making a computer do what you tell it to is quite unreal for some of these little guys.
A few snaps from the dance workshop that happened earlier this week. Students from Junior Kindergarten to Grade 7 participated in a workshop by one of the choreographers from the Royal Winnipeg Ballet School. Thank you, Philippe, for taking the time to teach and share with our students some of your beautiful dance skills! They had tons of fun, as you can see from the photos ;)
