The book that C is holding comes from the activity coordinator at The Redwoods Residence, that we will be visiting this coming Friday. It is a song book that the residents use during their singalongs, and that we have borrowed so that we may learn a few of the songs they sing on a regular basis. It is filled with beautiful and classic songs, a few of which some of us already knew. We have been practicing Alouette, Do Re Mi, and You Are My Sunshine. We've also listened to Somewhere Over the Rainbow, and Au Clair de la Lune. Everyone is encouraged to listen and practice these songs at home all week, before we go for our visit on Friday!

A lovely afternoon in the JK class. Everyone was busy playing, and working. A great way to end the week!
This past Wednesday, we had the pleasure of learning about how police officers play a role in our community from our assigned school officer , Constable Genevieve Hupe. She talked about how she also plays a role in our school community. Students had the opportunity to ask questions, and naturally, many of the questions had to do with her equipment! The students had a great time listening and learning from Constable Genevieve!
Yesterday, Mme Katie said she had a fantastic class with the JK kids, which I love to hear when they get back to me! They were working on alphabet sounds and unit related site words. Below are some of the sentences they made together.
Last Friday, we went on a hunt in the school library for books related to our unit on community. We found quite a few, and brought them back to class to read and look at. After exploring some of the content in the books, we had a short discussion about what we learned while 'reading' them. Below are some of the student answers!
S.K. said, "I learned that there's actually lots of sickness in my book and the doctors in the community helped the turtle.". B.H. said, "Kids in different communities go on field trips, just like us." C.D.S. said, "I learned that there are police in other communities." K.B. said, "I learned that you can go to different places on earth in the world and see different communities.". Last week, we reviewed the letter sounds we have learned since the start of the year, and then read a new story about the letter 'm'. The story is about the chef of the town that makes delicious food, especially chocolate cake. When anyone tastes her food, they always say, "Mmmmm, c'est bon!". If you ask your child about the story, they will surely be able to recall and retell you the story themselves! Afterwards, we searched for letters in our letter box to make our alphabet mountain that you see below.
