Self Portraits by Slidely Slideshow
Our mixed media self portraits are complete, you may have noticed them posted on the bulletin board by the office. It was a really great activity that allowed us to reflect a bit about the things we liked, who we are and then expressed that through art. Even more importantly, we were able to better understand that artists make their art with a purpose and that there is meaning behind what we see on, for example, a canvas.

Once again, the Maker Mobile joined us at school for some great workshops. Justine, our instructor for the robot programming workshop, did a great job explaining how we have to be incredibly specific when we give a computer commands, there were some good laughs!
Check out the video for some pictures of what we did!
One of the ways we travel around our community is by car so our tracks would symbolize how we are connected to one another, right? Yes! This activity certainly aided students reflect on how different members of a community or places in a community are connected. We started by deciding what placed we wanted in our community and traced different shapes to represent those places. Then, we got our cars and drove around to the different places leaving behind painted tire tracks!
Kindergarten Community Tracks Activity by Slidely Slideshow
The University of Ottawa's Maker Mobile workshops were one of the best workshops I have experienced in my time working with kids! Their staff were so great with the young children; friendly and knew how to engage young kids! The kindergarten class has now had a great intro to programming using the application called Scratch Jr. The grade 1/2 class are already quite proficient so they got some extra tips and practice and created some creative programs that they shared towards the end of the workshop. I will certainly be looking into more of their workshops for later this year! Enjoy the video!
Great job everyone! I am especially proud of all the work the kindergarten class did!
A little video about some of the activities we did in English and French during our unit on Friendship and some quotes from the students about friendship :)
