Below is our current tracking graph for reading buddies. The grade 1-2 students keep track of how many books they read and at the end, we record it on our graph. The groups choose their group name, hence the silly group names you see at the bottom of the graph! Our previous graphs only went up to about 50 and now that our readers are much more proficient, I had to make a graph that went up to 150! Big thanks to our grade 1-2 students for being such great role models!

Here, a word was written on the board (minus the first letter!) and read aloud. Students had to name the letter and write it on the line. We did this a few times with vocabulary related to our unit. As we played, I heard students referencing the stories from Raconte moi les sons! Guess those stories work after all ;-p
After a review of the sounds we have already worked on and reading the story of 'le petit garcon sans mémoire' that teaches us about the letter E, we went on a word hunt. Our mission was to find words that had the letters we have worked on thus far. Although some review and repetition will still be required, some of us were beginning to sound out words we found on the hunt! It was very exciting!
This week, we learned what an acrostic poem was and made our very own with the word Célébration. With our own knowledge and related vocabulary, the help of books and other materials in our class and some peer collaboration we succeeded in creating lovely poems.
Yesterday, we spent some time writing a story as a group, en Français. With a few predetermined parts of the story, the kids worked together to fill in the blanks. The collaboration was excellent! Lots of imaginative ideas and creative ways of extending the ideas of our friends. Once our story was complete, we read it together and then used our journals to illustrate any part of the story we wanted. The illustrations were great and quite varied which shows just how much we imagine things differently in our heads! We wrote a few sentences that briefly described parts of the story as well. Ask your child to tell you what our story was about!
We have finished reading the book 'Petit Camion Bleu' and have started our book study. We plan to make a little information booklet that will detail different things about 'Petit Camion Bleu' including the moral, the characters, words we found in the book and our favourite part. Today, we completed the page with words we found in the book. Some of the words were new to us, some were words that stood out and some were just words we remembered hearing. Stay tuned for the final product!
