Yesterday, we worked quite a bit on French language skills. We started our word tree, adding a couple of unit related vocabulary, en français, we'll continue adding to the word tree as we go. We went on to reading the story of 'u, la charette magique', from Raconte-moi l'alphabet, but not before saying bonjour and then au revoir to all the characters we already know (a, e, i, and o)! A few other alphabet activities followed. We began our alphabet documenting poster and then played a fun game of BINGO!

During both English and French lessons, we are learning about the vowels and their sounds. If you have heard your child say something about Angry Elephants In Orange Underpants, it is from English class! In French, we have read three stories from 'Raconte moi l'alphabet'. The story about the little girl named 'a' that had a cavity, the little boy named 'e' that has a very bad memory, and the acrobat mouse named 'i'. We will reread the stories several times over the year and do the corresponding activity to reinforce the letter sounds. Next up is the letter 'o'. Today, we also listened to the alphabet song a couple of times, at the request of the students! And then made our alphabet mountain. Making the mountain took lots of effort, all the letters were scattered on the ground, one friend at a time would find the letter that came after the last and would place it on the board. Now we know that there are 26 letters in the alphabet and that M & N is right in the middle! We practice our letters and writing in many different ways. Here, we are using dry erase markers on the windows to practice writing our names and letters we have learned about from raconte-moi l'alphabet!
Last week, we read the letter E story from our French alphabet book. We practiced forming upper and lower case e's on the table with chalk and then made letter e's using Wikki Stix. The letter E story from Raconte moi l'alphabet is about a little boy that has a terrible memory. When his teacher asks him a question, he has trouble remembering the answer and so puts his hands on his cheeks and goes 'eeeeeee'. Ask your child about the little boy with a bad memory and get them to recount the story to you!
Today, we reviewed the letters A, B, C and D from Raconte-moi l'alphabet and then sorted out words that began with those letters. Students were tasked with choosing words and pasting them on the appropriate paper. Once all the words were sorted and pasted, we reviewed the sheets with the pasted words and made sure they were in the right spot. The students listened very carefully, putting their sense of hearing to the test, as each word was read aloud. We spotted a few mistakes and corrected them! Good job everyone!
Today we did a few activities with the letter A including reading a story from Raconte-moi l'alphabet. We learned about the little girl named A that had a very bad toothache. She made the sound 'aaaaaaaaaa' until she finally went to the dentist to see what was wrong! We practiced writing the letter A on the table with chalk and went on a hunt for the letter A around the classroom. A little bricolage and building A's with sticks to finish off our A day!
