At first glance, the drawing on the chalk board appears to be a scribble, but there is always thought to what each and every child does. That is what we always have to remember so never assume that what you see is what it is! In this particular case, the drawing is a pattern. A pattern that this sweet girl is incredibly proud of, and rightly so! The pattern, as I was told, goes like this, 'Clap, clap, stomp, stomp, clap, clap, stomp, stomp!' Just perfect.

Today we talked about all types of patterns, sound patterns, action patterns, shape patterns. Each student had a turn leading the class in a sound or action pattern and then we used the chalk boards to draw some patterns of our own. Some simple and some more complex but all awesome! We looked around the class too and found some patterns in our environment. Patterns are everywhere!
After a short discussion about what these words meant, the SK students helped write them out using their super writing skills! Our discussion really did give the students a clearer understanding of what these words meant and especially what it meant within the context of their lives.
Mirrors have some cool uses in kindergarten. We can learn about addition, symmetry, use them for self portraits and more I'm sure! This morning, the kindergarten students used mirrors to explore counting and addition. They chose shapes or figures, counted the amount they chose and then counted the amount that included the reflection! Now that the mirrors and what we can use them for have been introduced, the students can explore them during free play time!
Today was our first library period, which we will have every Monday. Students get to browse the books and choose one to borrow and keep in the class for the week. We use library cards to record what we borrow and check it off once we return it. Each student got their own library card which is what you see in the picture above! We went over the rules to follow in the library, how to remember where to return a book and how to properly place a book back on the shelf.
