Creating all kinds of shapes was the name of the game! The students used their geoboards and elastics to produce any kind of shape they could come up with! Then they counted the sides and the corners and shared with their friends!

_What can you make with these 7 magic shapes? Students got creative as they played around with the shapes to make an image of their choice. They started by cutting out the shapes and then arranging them in endless possibilities. The sky is the limit when they use their imagination! Many skill building opportunities come from playing with tangrams; from geometry to shape vocabulary to spatial awareness! Not to mention creativity! What can you make with these 7 magic shapes! __What are we learning when playing games we love and enjoy? During free play, these two boys chose to use the megalink blocks. This game develops motor skills and perceptual skills while exploring the concepts of angles, 3D shapes and patterns. They pick a card and build what they see using the blocks. Very Satisfying once it's completed :)
What shapes can you see? _Today we did a fun shape activity that one of my students called 'magic'. I projected an image on the white board and asked the students what shapes they saw, well they saw many shapes! From triangles to cubes, cylinders to diamonds. When they pointed out a shape, I traced it with a dry erase marker and after finding enough shapes, I removed the projected image, leaving behind all the shapes we saw. It was a fun and engaging activity that the students enjoyed! The students concluded that everything is made out of shapes...everything! This is the above image after the projected image was taken away. We could have gone on forever, well until we drew the whole image! Here is an image before we traced the shapes... ...and here is the image after we traced the shapes! Later on in the day, some students pointed out other shapes they saw in objects around the school. For example the hand dryer, apparently it's a cube ;) This activity allowed students to look at everyday objects, and everything around them, in a different way. Rather than seeing the plate with their lunch on it, they saw a circle. It allowed the students to see things with a different perspective.
