Our adventure to the bookmobile today was fantastic! Everyone was so excited, and not just about the bookmobile, but about the fact that some of us use the same road to get to school, that we had a map to follow in order to arrive to our destination, that the park we spend lots of time at for recess was around the corner, that there were little treasures found along the way and most of all, the friendly mail lady we met on the way back that showed us what the grey Canada Post box was for and let us lift her heavy mail bag...it was heavy, she's very strong! Inside the Bookmobile, we met the librarian of Grant Alternative School, she introduced us to the librarians on the bus and they helped us look for the books we wanted to borrow. Next week, more books and another adventure!

The weather is getting warmer and March Break is here, the perfect time for annual winter walk at Stony Swamp. It is lovely to see the kids enjoying nature and also enjoying the time spent together. Our spring walk is just around the corner!
Couldn't have been a more beautiful day for the launch of Tree Ottawa. Excited for our partnership and to be part of a great initiative! We will be planting our special sapling soon (unless we are advised to wait until the spring!), this marks the start of many more to come! In January, one of the Tree Ottawa Reps will be coming to AcadeCap to talk to the students about what's to come! After some collaboration with the City of Ottawa and our community, we will be on our way! Planting, watering and helping to counter the depopulation of Ottawa's treescape! Visit the Tree Ottawa website for more information and to find out how you can extend this initiate at home! http://treeottawa.org/2014/05/23/tree-ottawa/
Really nice morning at Stony Swamp yesterday.
Enjoy the video!
Acadecap students had a fabulous time yesterday during our nature walk and scavenger hunt at Stony Swamp. The weather was fantastic and the fresh air was quite refreshing. Mme Alex found a baby lizard on a tree trunk, that was super cool! We found slimy algea that may or may not have had some sort of eggs in it...??? Different birds and lots of cool plants! The kids were particularly intrigued by a plant they found with fuzzy leaves which I believe is called a lambs ear. Climbing trees, find special rocks, chatting wit friends across the ages, it was a great morning!
Yesterday afternoon, the students of Acadecap participated in Ottawa's Spring Clean up the Capital. It was a beautiful afternoon and the kids really enjoyed being part of the clean up. They also use this park on a regular basis so to clean it up not only benefits them but the community too. Every little thing counts and everyone doing their part really makes a difference. Great work kids! Below i |
