This game is new to some and a favourite for others but fun for all! It is part of the Kindergarten Défi Math games. The Défi Math program is used at AcadeCap from ages 3 to Grade 6. This game helps develop skills problem solving and deduction. Each student has their own progress chart where they can track the levels they have completed.

Today, we learned all about fractions! We talked about how we see fractions all around us. Even if we had not noticed before, they were there! Then, we completed a little booklet, filling in the circle according to the fraction that was written on the page. Once we were done, we explored the coloured fraction circles. At snack time, fractions came up as we were eating cut pieces of apples, making our morning lesson that much more relevant!
Some of our favourite math games, Logix and Tangramino/Equilibro! Lots of challenging levels, lots of laughs when towers tumble down and lots of math skills being developed!
The JK students came up with a list of possible jobs of people in a community and using what they came up with, I created a form that they would use to get information from their school mates as to what they wanted to be when they grew up. If what they wanted to be was not on the list, the JK kids made an X on the bottom of the page to represent 'other'. So we went around the school and gathered all the information we could before going back to class and making one main graph to represent all the info we got. We found that there were many community jobs that we had not come up with! Later, we practiced making bar graphs and collecting info on our little chalk boards.
This morning, our math activity was all about the game Mystero. This time, however, we made our own Mystero playing cards! I did an example before the kids began to make their own. They did so well, very creative representations of numbers 1 through 9.
From the collection of défi math games for preschool and kindergarten kids, Mystero is a fun game that develops our concept of numbers. Additionally, it helps develop reasoning skills, perseverance, and observational skills.
