Kung Hei Fat Choi! Happy Lunar New Year! We listened to a story that taught us about the sinister Nian who wasn't nice to the villagers at the beginning of each new year, so the villagers learned to scare him off with loud noises, bright lights, and the colour red. The 15-day occasion is celebrated in the early new year to usher out the past year and welcome in the new year. By celebrating, it is believed that the year ahead will be full of luck and prosperity.

The kinders teamed up with their older school friends during The Hour of Code. They worked together to explore different coding tutorials. The younger children benefited from the knowledge and experience of their older buddies and enjoyed being able to help them solve awesome coding challenges.
What is The Hour of Code? The Hour of Code was started as a one-hour introduction to computer science. Its purpose was to introduce the basics of computer science and to immerse children in the concepts of computer programming. Even on the stormiest of days, we are cognizant of the importance of physical activity in our daily lives. Gross motor skills like running, jumping and skipping are some of the important developmental skills that children learn during our planned physical activities. There is no better way to release some energy then dancing and exercising with some of your closest friends!
Rainy days can still be active and fun! We have been busy working on designing and building our Rube Goldberg machines throughout the PYP at Acadecap.
As a group, they have designed their Rube Goldberg machines and collected the needed materials to begin building their project. This ISTEAM activity helps to develop critical thinking skills that are crucial for each child's development. What an exciting day it was on Wednesday for our Kindergarten class.
The first snowfall always brings a lot of joy and wonder to our little ones. Our unit of inquiry is all about night and day cycles (dark and light),how living things cope with seasonal changes and how temperature affects water. This change in the weather is happening at the optimal time for our class to see first hand what they are learning throughout our unit of inquiry. SNOW for the win! On Remembrance Day we remember the men and women who have served and sacrificed to keep our country safe.
At Acadecap we took some time to acknowledge the devotion of these extraordinary men and women and we showed our appreciation to their memory in a variety of thoughtful activities. Thank you to all present and past Canadian Armed Forces. |
Welcome to the daily life of Académie de la Capitale's Junior / Senior Kindergarten class! We hope you enjoy this window into our classroom as much as we enjoy sharing it!Archives
