Finally the day had come, the students were so excited! We had a top secret mission to bake cookies for all our friends at school! This idea came from a discussion we had about the holidays, how they make us feel, what we do during the holidays, the spirit of giving and sharing. As the students shared ideas, the idea of making cookies came up and from there we decided to do something special for our peers, surprise them with home baked cookies! We called it our top secret cookie mission! It was a great opportunity to have the students involved in the whole process, from buying the ingredients to measuring, mixing and making the cookies to delivering them to each class, the students were ecstatic!

Finding learning opportunities wherever we can!
Logix is a problem solving game using process of elimination and logic. Students determine where specific shapes go on a blank grid card using the help of the playing card. Similar concept to the well known game Sudoku. Here the students are working on completing one of the four levels consisting of 13 cards per level. As they progress, the levels increase in difficulty! They, independently, get what they need to start; shapes, their progress sheet, a game card and the grid card. Once they complete a game card, they call me to check it and if it's correct they get to check it off on their progress chart. This gives them a visual of how many levels they have completed. It is a great problem solving game!
On Wednesday, the grade 5/6/7 class held their exposition of archaeological sites for their unit History: Fact or Fiction. The whole school was invited to come and explore their sites and listen to their presentations. It was very fun and very interactive, the students got to dig in the sand and find buried artifacts and then they got a description about what they had found! Thank you Mme Mélanie's grade 5/6/7 class! Check out their blog for more info and more pics!

When I came in to work on December 1st the first thing one of my students told me was, "It's December!" Excited as ever for Christmas, the countdown began! We put up a little Christmas tree and decorated it with the first, among many other, Christmas decorations and crafts we will make. Some will go on our tree and some will decorate the class, some we will use for our concert at the end of December and of course, some will be presents for our families too! _We are a diverse and international school, we won't only celebrate Christmas but other holidays too! Celebrating some that have just past like Eid and some that are coming soon like Hanukkah, building cultural awareness, acceptance and understanding of differences while also realizing all our similarities even if we come from the other side of the world! |
