This morning, the students were busy working with partners in different math centers. A few familiar games, a few new but all of them FUN! Monday afternoon, the students spent some time baking cookies for the seniors we visited with today. A gesture to say thank you for spending time to share their stories and answer our questions! They followed the recipe closely and completed the whole activity with little help on my part! Measuring, pouring, mixing...they did it all! The recipe was posted on a big sheet on the wall with simple instructions and illustrations (don't judge my drawing skills if you happen to notice the picture!) so they were able to read and, basically, figure it out independently. Of course I manned the little ovens when it came time to bake ;) Everyone got to have a little taste of their baked creations and were excited to share and eat the rest today! At the entrance of the Center de Services Guigues What a fantastic morning spent with seniors at Centre de Services Guigues. Welcomed with big smiles, we sat down ready to introduce ourselves. Although some of us were quite shy, we got through the introductions and were on to the questions! We listened intently while our new found friends talked about what they loved to do when they were kids, games they played, the toys they had, the schools they went to and the rules they followed as children. Having previously prepared the questions was certainly a good thing! Their experiences were very similar to our own experiences which was neat to learn. We had a song sung for us and sang a few ourselves. We learned that the Centre de Services Guigues used to be a school for boys and that the building was over 100 years old. Everyone had a fantastic time and promised to be back!
A silly poem reinforcing vowels from our French book, Mélissa et ses amis. We have read it in class so your children should be familiar with it. Have you child read it to you at home. We have also worked on the sounds 'CH', 'OU', 'EN', 'AU' AND 'AM' (among others) that are all found in the words below. Look for these sounds and have your child read the words to you. Look for these sounds in other French words in books such as the early readers that will be sent home today!
Really proud of our AcadeCap students for their strength and determination. They were running with purpose; Terry Fox, family members or friends were all on our minds and in our hearts. It was a meaningful and fantastic event! Thanks Mme Katie for a wonderfully organized event!
