This is a great little video about the changes we can make in our daily lives that that have a big impact if we all make them. We watched the video together yesterday and I paused before the animation demonstrated the better choice. I asked the students what they can do differently and they were all pretty on point with their answers. Take a look at home and have them tell you what the video was about and what they learned.

Below is our current tracking graph for reading buddies. The grade 1-2 students keep track of how many books they read and at the end, we record it on our graph. The groups choose their group name, hence the silly group names you see at the bottom of the graph! Our previous graphs only went up to about 50 and now that our readers are much more proficient, I had to make a graph that went up to 150! Big thanks to our grade 1-2 students for being such great role models!
Here, a word was written on the board (minus the first letter!) and read aloud. Students had to name the letter and write it on the line. We did this a few times with vocabulary related to our unit. As we played, I heard students referencing the stories from Raconte moi les sons! Guess those stories work after all ;-p
It's great to see that all our students already have a wide range of knowledge about recycling but where exactly does all the recycling go? As much as I wanted to visit the closest center to us, they could not accommodate us at this time...safety reasons...fair enough! One of the Tomlinson facilities will soon be able to do 'safe' tours that we may just take advantage of in the spring, hopefully their construction will be complete...I digress! The friendly gentleman from Tomlinson did however direct me to where I can find links with videos of their facility. We watched some of these videos this morning and the students had lots of questions about what was happening. After we watched some clips from the videos, we discussed how we could REUSE some of the recycling from our home or school. This tied in very well with our last unit! Lots of great ideas! On the video, we heard that they sometimes make paper with black box recycling. Some of the students proposed we do the same and since I planned on making paper anyway but had not yet presented the idea, it was even better that the idea came from something they learned! For this activity, I introduced vocabulary that the students may or may not have known in French. After talking about the words, what they meant, the sounds we heard in them and how they relate to our unit, we coloured in the little images, cut it all out and then matched them up again on our own coloured paper. For the matching part, each student had a turn to pick a word, I would read it aloud and they would have to find the image. Some students were starting to read the first sound and from there would guess the word. Great job my little early readers!
